Are You Grounded?
I am heading to Florida later in July to see family, friends, have fun and to preach. The sermon is titled "Are You Grounded," and it comes from 1 Chronicles 21. Above is how the sermon looks in a word cloud. (Word cloud courtesy of www.wordle.net)
I started to read 1 Chronicles 21 but can't get past the first verse which has Satan as the reason for David to number Israel:
1 Chron 21:1 Satan rose up against Israel and incited David to take a census of Israel.
However, we have this verse that states the Lord ordering the census:
2 Sam 24:1 Again the anger of the LORD burned against Israel, and he incited David against them, saying, “Go and take a census of Israel and Judah.”
Then to further confuse things Jealous is not okay with head counting:
(1 Chron 21:7-17) God gets angry with David for counting the people and, for a punishment, offers him three choices: Three years of famine, three months to be destroyed by enemies, or three days of pestilence. When David can't make up his mind, God decides for him and sends a pestilence that kills 70,000 men. (Presumably women and children were also killed. If so, the total must have been more than 200,000.) In the middle of the slaughter, God "repents of the evil" that he was doing and tells the angel to stop the killing. One wonders what God had in mind in the first place, since it was David who was supposed to have sinned by taking the census -- not the people. Even David was confused by this, and asked God, "these sheep, what have they done?"
Why do you think the mythological christian god is such a brutal murdering maniac?
Why does one verse have satan as the reason for the census but the other has god as the reason?
I wonder why a great and powerful invisible wizard in the sky can't write a book with clarity? Is your god retarded?
